10 Famous people that have smoked marijuana

Whether they like to admit it or not, Hollywood is full of famous stoners. But some have been more vocal about it than others, particularly in today’s modern world where smoking marijuana has become more acceptable. But, as you’ll read in this list of famous stoners below, there are a couple – or at least one – that enjoyed their cannabis long before talk of legalization ever came up.

Whoopi Goldberg

Anyone who watches “The View” knows that Whoopi has been a major supporter of smoking marijuana, as the hostess, comedian, and actress talks about it quite frequently. Whoopi suffers from glaucoma, which causes her headaches, discomfort, and pressure behind the eyes. While we’re guessing that her marijuana-smoking goes way back, she’s been particularly open about it since 2014, just after Colorado legalized recreational and medical use.

At that time she wrote an article for The Cannabist and in it, she talked about her vape pen extensively and even admitted that she’s given it a name – “Sippy” – and that she refers to her pen as a “she”. Whoopi has gone one step beyond just advocating for the legalization of cannabis though. She’s even created a company known as Whoopi & Maya that sells cannabis products for women. Some of the products include a soak bath, hot chocolate that’s rich in CBD, and other products that can help women with their cycles.

Kirsten Dunst

Dunst has spoken about smoking marijuana in the past, most recently when she was promoting her movie “Woodshock”, which was released on September 4, 2017. The movie is about a woman that loses her mother and deals with the loss by smoking an impressive amount of weed. During an interview for the movie, Dunst admitted to smoking on the set in a clip that “may or may not have made the movie”. Even before that though, she was an advocate for cannabis use stating that America’s laws regarding marijuana “ridiculous.”

Paris Hilton

While many celebrities may openly admit that they smoke marijuana, it seems as though some just aren’t ready to; even when they’ve been caught. In 2010, Paris Hilton was arrested during a World Cup match for smoking cannabis, although she denied that’s what she was smoking at the time and the charges were eventually dropped. However, with video of her smoking easily found on the Internet, it’s hard to believe she’s never smoked. There’s no word on whether or not she stills enjoys the occasional toke but with that DJ gig of hers, it certainly wouldn’t be surprising if she did.

Bill MaherBill-Maher

It was in 2016 when Bill Maher was loud and clear about his advocacy for smoking marijuana when he lit a joint on his show, “Real Time with Bill Maher”. There were rumours at the time that he was fined $1.7 million for doing so, but that claim has since been debunked as nothing more than fodder for the rumour mill. Maher did say at the time that he was a license holder for medical marijuana, but he also claimed that it was for “glaucoma in his third eye.” Before that incident, he wrote an opinion piece for Rolling Stone stating that marijuana legalization could unite the country and that it’s a private thing that everyone should have the freedom to enjoy.

Kristen Stewartkristen-stewart

Kristen Stewart may be best known for her role in the “Twilight” franchise, but she’s also known as being one of Hollywood’s most unconventional stars; and that includes being fairly open about smoking marijuana. When promoting the movie “American Ultra” with her co-star Jesse Eisenberg in 2015, they discussed cannabis and she called it “no big deal”, which suggests that at the time at least, she did imbibe. But even before that, in 2012 when speaking with Vanity Fair, she said, “Google my name and the first thing that comes up is me sitting on the porch with my ex-boyfriend and dog, smoking a pipe.” So while she has definitely smoked pot in the past, it’s unclear as to whether or not she still does.

It was back in 1994 when Madonna appears on “Late Night with David Letterman” and dropped the F-bomb 13 times. She later stated, in 2009, that “it wasn’t because [David] excited me,” but was more a case of, “that joint I smoked before I came on.” The incident didn’t cause that much of a stir, perhaps because the public is so accustomed to seeing Madonna do much more shocking things than talk about cannabis. There’s no word on whether or not Madonna still engages in the practice, but no one would be surprised if she did.

Seth Rogenseth-rogen

With movies like “Pineapple Express” and “Neighbors”, it’s easy to assume that Seth Rogen smokes a lot of marijuana; and the assumption is a correct one. Anyone who’s seen his YouTube video on how to make a cross joint knows that. Seth had also said in 2011 while promoting his movie “50/50” that marijuana helped with his creativity, so he was still smoking at that time. And just like Madonna, we’re guessing that he still partakes.

Willie Nelson

With songs like “It’s All Going to Pot” with Merle Haggard and “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die,” it’s not all that surprising that Willie Nelson enjoys cannabis; and he’s not shy about it, either.

He says that it’s helped him quit smoking cigarettes, and that it’s really helped calm his temper. He’s been one of the biggest advocates for legalization of marijuana and in 2015 he even created his own brand, known as Willie’s Reserve.

So pass a bowl around while listening to Willie, Miley, or Madonna; or roll a few joints and chill out for a Seth Rogen marathon. Either way, you’ll be in good company with these celebrities that are current marijuana smokers, or at least have been in the past.

The “Jackass” star had a long history of addiction until 2007, when he became clean and gave up all drugs and alcohol, with the exception of cannabis. Later though he would give that up as well, as he would state in a Twitter post in 2016 in which he claimed “I haven’t smoked weed in almost seven years – since March 9th of 2008, to be exact.”

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus

Unconventional has always been a good word to describe Miley Cyrus, and that has included excessive drug use. When her song “We Can’t Stop” was released in 2013, people speculated that she was singing about Molly, a drug also known as ecstasy; and she confirmed that in later interviews. In that same year, she also lit a joint on the stage of the 2013 European MTV Awards, for which she drew some criticism. But Miley is another star that has also cleaned up since then. When speaking with Billboard in 2017, she said that she was clean and wasn’t using any kind of drug, including marijuana; and that she had also given up drinking. She also said during that interview, “That was just something that I wanted to do.”

Woody HarrelsonWood-Harrelson

For several decades Harrelson has been one of Hollywood’s biggest advocates for the use of recreational pot. In early 2017 however, he admitted that he had given up the habit simply because it was “just 30 years of partying way too hard” and that it made him “emotionally unavailable.” So while it seems as though he was a cannabis users strictly for recreational purposes, he seems to have quit the habit; at least for the time-being.
