Indica Seeds

Indicas originally came from the middle east and their genetics can be traced back to landraces such as Afghani and Hindu Kush. Indica seeds grow short, bushy cannabis plants with fat fan leaves and dense buds. They are known for their relaxing and sedative highs and are most often used in the evening to unwind and relieve stress.

What are indica seeds?

Indica genetics are native to the harsh dry climates of the middle east in places such as India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Turkey. Indica seeds tend to produce short, bushy plants with compact flowers, making them ideal for small spaces. Their short, stocky build rarely exceeds 6 feet in height, and their broad leaves and dense foliage help to protect the plant against cooler climates, making them naturally resistant to a few common pests and diseases.

They're known for their sedative, physically soothing effects that make these plants ideal for people looking for a relaxing and sleep-inducing strain to their gardens.

Who are indica seeds best suited to?

Because indica plants stay on the smaller, more compact side of the spectrum, they do well in smaller grow rooms. You might also want to run a few indica seeds in your outdoor grow if you live in a cooler climate.

Indica strains have a shorter flowering period and hold up to temperature swings better than their sativa counterparts. Better yet, these strains throw gorgeous purple hues in cooler weather, and their dense structure makes them a bit hardier to common pests and diseases. If you're growing cannabis for medicinal use, you might enjoy an indica garden if you're seeking relief from insomnia, anxiety, and chronic pain due to their relaxing effects.

Why choose indica seeds?

Indicas are an excellent choice for anyone seeking the soothing relief of these high THC strains that have a sedative effect. They're also resinous in nature, meaning they offer good potency and make an excellent choice for anyone interested in washing them or making them into concentrates.

However, the biggest reason to choose indica seeds over other varieties is if you're running an indoor grow with limited space.

What are the effects of indicas?

Indicas are sedative and relaxing. A good indica is an excellent nighttime companion when you're looking for a deep sense of calm, relaxation, and euphoria. They're a treat for stress relief, physical relaxation, and relief from aches and pains. They tend to be higher in the terpenes that cause the giggles and the munchies, making them excellent for eating a full meal, feeling more optimistic after washing the stress of the day away, and getting the full night's rest you need.

Some indica strains are incredibly potent and on the whole they are slightly more potent than sativas. Be careful if you are smoking one of our high THC indicas as these will give you what is known as the ‘couch locked’ effect, where you might feel glued to the sofa.

How long do indica strains take to grow?

The average Indica-dominant photoperiod strain takes somewhere between 6 and 8 weeks of flowering before harvest and requires around 4-6 weeks of vegetative growth. Although if you grow an autoflower indica it can flower in as little as 6 weeks and grow from seed to harvest in 8-10 weeks.

Are indica seeds best suited to indoor or outdoor grows?

Indica plants can grow well both indoors and outdoors. If grown outdoors, their broad leaves, sturdy build, and dense bud structure help to protect them from common pests and diseases. They do well in cooler climates and throw stunning colors as the seasons change.

Indica seeds are perfect for a small indoor environment, like a grow tent or closet. Since they rarely grow over 6 feet tall, they tend to bush out, but that growth can be kept under control with topping, trimming, pruning, and training.

How to grow indica seeds

Growing Indica strains is an excellent choice, especially if you have limited grow space. Indica plants prefer a cooler and less humid environment compared to Sativa strains, so it is important to carefully manage temperature and humidity levels since their dense bud structure makes them a little more mold prone. You may need to add ventilation and temperature control systems to your garden to keep everything perfect.

For the vegetative stage, give your plants a light cycle of 16 to 24 hours of light per day, and then reduce it to 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness when transitioning to the flowering stage. Pruning and training will be crucial during veg since indicas tend to grow out instead of up. Pruning helps maintain proper air circulation and light penetration in the dense foliage, preventing issues like mold and mildew. Techniques like topping and low-stress training (LST) can help shape the plants and improve light distribution, encouraging more light to bud nodes and a bigger harvest when you flip to flowering.

Indica strains typically have a shorter flowering cycle, which ranges from around 7 to 9 weeks. This means they mature and produce buds relatively quickly compared to some other cannabis varieties. Keep a close eye on your plants during this phase and harvest them at the right time to achieve optimal potency and quality. Waiting too long can lead to a decrease in THC levels as exposure to normal light will degrade it into CBN. That's not necessarily bad if you're looking for sleep medicine, though!
